The Siphon Float Erosion Control

The Siphon Float System is an excellent erosion control device as well as a surface water protection system. The exhibit below details the concept of the erosion control system. Erosion Control Exhibit

Sediment is captured at the bottom of a sediment basin as the intake of the siphon floats just below the surface of the sediment basin. Surface water protection provided by preventing floating particles from flowing out of the pond by placing the siphon intake 4 to 6 inches below the surface of the pond. The depth may be adjusted per design requirements to be deeper. The system may also be modified to meet the design needs of the system by reducing flow, creating sheet flow at the outfall through perforated pipe, and adjusting the intake location for better performance. See the engineering page for information regarding flow rates based upon head pressure and length of pipe. Erosion Control System Pic   Erosion Control Outfall Structure System Pic

Failed Stormwater Pond Repair System

The Stormwater Pond Repair System is an application in which the Siphon Float System is placed in an existing stormwater pond in order to re-establish flow to the outfall while improving environmental safety. An existing stormwater system might fail because of a collapse or blockage within the existing outfall pipe. The outfall pipe could also be undersized and inadequate to serve the quantity of stormwater within the pond due to development in the area. The exhibit below suggests how the Siphon Float System could be used to re-establish flow to an outfall with minimal disturbance to the surrounding infrastructure. Failed Stormwater Pond Exhibit

The Siphon Float System may be used in several ways for both temporary and permanent solutions. Any municipality or association responsible for maintaining a network of stormwater systems should consider the Siphon Float System as an alternative method to re-establish flow within a drainage system. It is small enough to carry and may be installed within an hour of being on site, providing immediate drainage relief and the avoidance of flooding.
It is also an excellent method for repairing stormwater systems in areas affected by a natural disasters. Multiple systems could fit inside of a standard size truck and be distributed into an area to relieve stormwater flooding issues on damaged systems. In order to improve the environmental impact of stormwater pollution, it captures harmful particles within the ponds such as sediment, plastic, oil, fungi, and bacteria preventing them from contaminating downstream waterbodies, such as rivers, lakes, beaches and the ecosystems within them.
